About this service

We create ink brush logo concepts for martial arts dojos, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and pan-Asian restaurants, ramen bars and tea rooms: bold sumi-e strokes, an enso circle, bamboo, waves, a red seal stamp and expressive brush lettering. The concepts are planned for a noren curtain or door sign, a gi patch, chopstick sleeves and takeaway bags, and keep the energy of a single confident stroke.

What we need from you

The dojo or restaurant name exactly as it should appear, the martial art or cuisine, symbols that matter (a crane, a wave, bamboo), colours beyond black and red, and links to brush logos you like.

We will ask you:

  • How is the dojo or restaurant name written?
  • Which martial art or cuisine do you represent?
  • Which symbol should the brush draw?

Questions and answers

Can the logo include kanji or Chinese characters?

We don't recommend it: characters drawn in a picture can come out inaccurate. If you need them, have a calligrapher write the final characters and check their meaning.

Can the red seal contain our initials?

Yes, one or two Latin initials usually work in a seal. Longer text is better left out.

Will the brush texture embroider on a gi?

Brush edges get simplified in embroidery. Pick a bolder stroke for patches and have it redrawn in vector for the embroiderer.
