Example for the Standard package

Merging the monthly sales files of 9 shops into one Excel report

How it is run

python merge_sales.py --month 2026-10
2026-11-02 09:14:03 INFO  Folder: sales/2026-10, 9 files found
2026-11-02 09:14:03 INFO  shop-01.csv: 1,284 rows
2026-11-02 09:14:04 INFO  shop-02.xlsx: 967 rows
2026-11-02 09:14:04 WARN  shop-07.csv: 3 rows without a price skipped (lines 88, 412, 913)
2026-11-02 09:14:05 INFO  Done: 10,412 rows -> report-2026-10.xlsx (sheets "Sales" and "Totals")

Settings, not code

The column names of each shop live in settings.ini, so a new shop or a renamed column is a line there:

[columns]
date = Date, Sale date, Day
product = Product, Item, Name
quantity = Qty, Quantity, Pcs
price = Price, Unit price

A part of the code

def read_shop_file(path: Path, columns: dict[str, list[str]]) -> pd.DataFrame:
    """Reads one shop's file and gives it the report's column names."""
    table = pd.read_excel(path) if path.suffix == ".xlsx" else pd.read_csv(path, encoding="utf-8-sig")
    renamed = {}
    for name, variants in columns.items():
        found = next((c for c in table.columns if c.strip() in variants), None)
        if found is None:
            raise ReportError(f"{path.name}: no column for '{name}' (looked for {', '.join(variants)})")
        renamed[found] = name
    table = table.rename(columns=renamed)[list(columns)]
    table["shop"] = path.stem
    return table

Files: a ZIP archive with merge_sales.py (310 lines), settings.ini, requirements.txt and a README with installing Python, running the script and what each message in the log means. The client runs it on their own computer.

Client: a small chain of 9 stationery shops; each shop sends its sales for the month as a CSV or Excel file, with slightly different column names. Task: one script that reads every file in a folder, brings the columns to one shape, and writes a single Excel report with all sales and a sheet of totals by shop.

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

Lesson timetables, shift plans, delivery slots or an event programme often live in a Google Sheet, and copying them into Google Calendar one by one is slow and easy to get wrong. This Google Apps Script reads your rows and makes an event for each one in the calendar you choose: title, start and end, place and description from your columns. It saves the event's ID in the row, so when you change a time and run it again, the event moves instead of being doubled. Premium can spread events over several calendars, such as one per teacher or room. Guests get invitations only if you turn that on. Events go into your own Google account, where you install and run the script; it does not check for clashes or book anything for others.

What is included

  • What you getA ZIP archive with the Apps Script code and a README that shows how to add it to your sheet, choose the calendar and run it; the code is also shown on the order page.
  • Your columnsTitle, date, start, end, place and description
  • No doublesThe event ID in the row ties it to its event
  • Your time zoneTimes read in the time zone you set
  • Invitations only if you wantGuests are invited only when that is turned on
  • Readable codeWith comments, easy to add a column later

How it works

  1. 1
    TaskYou send the sheet's columns and which calendar to use
  2. 2
    CodeWe write the script and the guide to installing it
  3. 3
    Try itYou run it on a copy of the sheet into a test calendar
  4. 4
    ChangesYou ask for changes within your package and send any error message

What we need from you

The column names of your sheet and a few rows (made-up names are fine), how dates and times are written in it, your time zone and the calendar the events should go to (or, for Premium, the column that picks the calendar). What should happen when a row changes or is deleted, and whether guests from a column should get invitations. Roughly how many rows, and how often the sheet changes.

We will ask you:

  • What is in the sheet?
  • Which calendar should the events go to?
  • What should happen when rows change?
  • Should guests be invited?

Questions and answers

What if I change a row after the event is made?

From Standard the script finds the event by the ID saved in the row and updates it. In Basic, rows that already have an event are skipped, so you change the event in the calendar yourself.

Will it delete events?

Only in Premium and only by the rule you give, such as removing the event when the row is marked Cancelled. Events it did not make are never touched.

Can it put events in my colleagues' calendars?

Into calendars you can edit, such as shared ones, yes. Otherwise you can invite them as guests from a column, if you turn invitations on.

Do you get access to my calendar?

No. You add the script to your own sheet and allow it access yourself. We never log in to your Google account.
