About this service
We draw tattoo sketches inspired by traditional Japanese tattooing: koi climbing a waterfall, dragons, tigers, phoenixes, peonies and cherry blossom framed by wind bars and stylised waves. These designs are about flow, so the main figure follows the length of the arm, thigh or back and the background ties it to the body. Bold outlines and a limited palette keep the piece readable for decades.

Questions and answers
Does the direction of a koi or dragon matter?
Many people follow the traditional meanings, such as a koi swimming up for effort and a koi swimming down for a goal reached. Tell us what you prefer and we draw it that way.
Can you add Japanese characters?
A short word may be drawn, but characters can come out inaccurate. Check them with someone who reads Japanese and have your tattoo artist redraw them.
Is this suitable for a full back piece?
Yes, ask for a tall composition and describe the area. Your tattoo artist scales it and plans the sessions.
