About this service
A bar or bat mitzvah speech has to sound like a thirteen-year-old wrote it, connect the Torah portion to their own life without sounding like a sermon, and still leave room for thank-yous that do not turn into a list of names. We write the teen's d'var Torah or speech from what they tell us about their portion, interests and family, or a parent's speech and blessing, in a warm voice that fits the family's tradition. You get a script that is easy to read aloud from the bimah or the party stage, with pauses marked.

What we need from you
Whose speech it is (the teen or a parent), the Torah portion and any ideas from the rabbi or tutor, the teen's interests, mitzvah project and personality, people to thank, the community's style (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox or secular) and any time limit.
We will ask you:
- Whose speech is it?
- What is the Torah portion, and what did the rabbi or tutor suggest?
- What should we know about the teen?
- How long should it be?

Questions and answers
Will the rabbi accept this interpretation?
We base the d'var Torah on the portion and the ideas you send, but communities differ, so review the text with the rabbi or tutor before the service.
Can the teen change the wording?
Yes, and they should. It reads best when they practise it and swap any word that does not sound like them.
Can you include Hebrew?
Yes, short phrases or blessings with transliteration, if you tell us which ones.
