Files: a ZIP archive with index.html, the styles, script.js and 4 pictures drawn for the game. It works with a mouse, a finger and the arrow keys, keeps the best score on the player's device, and goes on the client's own hosting or in an iframe on their site. The pictures here are screenshots of the game.

Client: Maple Bean, a coffee shop that wanted a little game for its website and social pages to tell people about its autumn blend. Task: a catching game in warm autumn colours: the player moves a cup, catches coffee beans (+1), golden beans (+5), dodges ice cubes, has 3 lives and 2 levels; the end screen links to the menu.

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

A short vocabulary game for a language school or a tutor: students match words with their translations or pictures, or put scrambled letters in the right order, against the clock if you like. It gives your students practice between lessons and gives visitors to your site a taste of how you teach. Send us the word lists with their translations, the language pair and the level, and we draw the pictures, write the instructions and build the game. We use your words and translations exactly as sent and do not proofread the language you teach, so check them first. The game has no server, so it does not know who played, does not track progress and is not a course. The best score stays on the player's device, with no sign-in or collecting of emails. In Premium the end screen shows your promo code.

What we need from you

The language you teach and the language of the instructions. The word lists for each round with their translations, checked by your school, and the level of the students. Which words should get a picture. The kind of task you prefer: matching, picking or putting letters in order. Your colours and logo and where the end-screen button leads, for example to a trial lesson sign-up. For Premium, the promo code. Optionally up to 5 pictures as PNG, JPEG or WebP that you have the right to use.

We will ask you:

  • Which language and level?
  • Your word lists
  • Which task do you prefer?
  • Your colours and where the button leads

Questions and answers

Which languages can it use?

Any language whose letters a browser shows, such as English, Spanish, German, Russian or Chinese. Tell us if it is written right to left, so we lay out the screens for it.

Will you check our translations?

No. We use the words and translations exactly as you send them, so have them checked at your school first.

Can I see how each student did?

No. The game has no server and no sign-in, so it does not know who played and sends no results. Each student sees only their own best score.

Can we add new words for each term?

Yes. The word lists sit at the top of script.js and can be changed in any code editor; within your package you can also ask us.
