Missing data to fill in

  1. Kowalczyk & Brenner (2023): DOI not provided. If the article has none, delete the DOI line.
  2. Silva (2019): the dissertation's database or repository name is missing; APA asks for it if the thesis was published online.
  3. Olsen (2021): page number for the quote on p. 37 taken from your draft; please confirm it matches the 2nd edition.

Changes made

  • Article title switched to sentence case, journal name and volume in italics.
  • "&" added before the last author, initials standardised.
  • Edition moved after the book title in parentheses.
  • List sorted alphabetically by first author; organisation used as author for the report.

Client: a second-year geography student. Style: APA 7th edition, plus the department rule "list DOIs where available, no retrieval dates".

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

We format your sources by the 7th edition of the APA manual: sentence-case article titles, italic journal names and volumes, DOIs written as https://doi.org links and up to 20 authors before the ellipsis. In-text citations follow the same rules: works by three or more authors are shortened from the first mention, and both narrative and parenthetical forms are covered. We do not look sources up online, so anything missing is listed for you to fill in.

What is included

  • What you getAn APA 7 reference list sorted alphabetically by author, with matching parenthetical and narrative citations and a list of sources missing data; Premium also checks every citation in your paper against the list. You get it as text on the order page and as a Word (.docx) file.
  • Sentence caseArticle and book titles cased the APA way
  • DOIs and URLsAs https://doi.org links, no "Retrieved from"
  • Author rulesUp to 20 names, groups and organisations
  • Both citation forms(Lee & Park, 2021) and Lee and Park (2021)
  • Odd sourcesDatasets, YouTube videos, reports, social posts

What we need from you

Your sources pasted as text, as photos or in a Word or PDF file, whether it is a student or professional paper, any notes from your instructor and, for Premium, the paper itself.

We will ask you:

  • Is this a student paper or a professional paper for publication?
  • Has your instructor added rules on top of APA 7?
  • Which unusual sources are on your list?
  • Do you need in-text citations or only the reference list?

Questions and answers

Do I cite a source with no date?

APA uses n.d. in place of the year, and we apply it. If the date is somewhere on the page, add it to the brief, since a real year is always better.

Is APA 6 still accepted?

Some instructors still ask for it. Tell us the edition in the brief; by default we use APA 7, which dropped the publisher location and changed the et al. rule.

Will italics survive when I paste?

Italics are kept in the Word file. When pasting from the order page, use your editor's paste with formatting, then set the hanging indent in your document.

Do you look up missing details online?

No, we work only with what you send. Every source without a year, pages, DOI or publisher goes into a list, you add the details, and we update the entry within your revisions.
