Full posting
Bike Mechanic (full-time, workshop)
Spokewell Cycles · Riverside district · $21–25 per hour, depending on experience
We are a neighbourhood bike shop that fixes about 60 bikes a week: commuter bikes, kids' bikes, e-bikes and the odd vintage racer. Our workshop is busy from March to October, and we are looking for a mechanic who enjoys solving problems and explaining them to customers in plain words.
What you will do
- Diagnose and repair bikes booked in for service: brakes, gears, wheels, bearings
- Build new bikes from the box and set them up for the rider
- Write a short, clear note on each repair ticket and tell the customer what was done
- Keep the workshop tidy and tools in order
- Help on the shop floor on busy Saturdays
What you need
- At least 1 year of hands-on bike repair, paid or volunteer
- Confidence with hydraulic disc brakes and indexing gears
- Ability to plan your day around a booking list and say early when a job will run late
Nice to have
- Experience with e-bike motors and batteries
- Wheel building
- A recognised mechanic qualification
If you meet the "need" list but not all the "nice to have", please apply anyway.
What we offer
- 38 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, finishing at 6 pm
- Paid training on e-bike systems in your first 3 months
- Staff price on parts and bikes, and a free yearly service for family members
- 25 days of paid leave, taken mostly in the quiet winter months
How to apply
Send a few lines about the bikes you have worked on and your availability to [email]. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone within 5 working days and invite shortlisted people to a paid 2-hour trial shift.

About this service
On Upwork, Fiverr requests, Kwork, Freelancer and similar marketplaces, a vague post like "need a website, cheap" attracts dozens of copy-paste bids and few good ones. We write a project posting that states the goal, scope, deliverables, deadline, budget range and the skills that matter, plus screening questions that make serious freelancers show relevant work. Higher packages split the project into milestones that suit fixed-price contracts.
What is included
- What you getA project posting with title, summary, scope, deliverables, timeline, budget and required skills, plus screening questions, and in higher packages a milestone breakdown. You get it as text you can paste or download as a file.
- Clear scopeWhat is in and what is not
- DeliverablesFiles, formats and hand-off
- Screening questionsThat filter out copy-paste bids
- MilestonesFor fixed-price payments

What we need from you
What you need done and why, the marketplace you will post on, your deadline and budget range, examples or links you like, and what you will provide to the freelancer.
We will ask you:
- What exactly do you need delivered?
- Which marketplace will you post on?
- What is your budget range and deadline?
- What will you hand over to the freelancer?

Payment protection
You pay when you order, but the money is released only for accepted work.
- Fixed priceThe package price does not change after you pay.
- The money is reservedWhen you pay, the amount is only reserved. It is released to the service once you accept the work.
- Checked before deliveryEvery result goes through a quality check before it reaches you, and you see it on the order page before accepting it.
- Free revisionsAsk for changes within your brief as many times as the package allows.
- Acceptance after 3 daysIf within 3 days of delivery you neither accept the work nor ask for changes, it is accepted automatically. If you write in the order chat after delivery, the order waits; once we answer, we may start the 3 days again and will say so in the chat.
- Redo or a full refundIf the result does not match your brief and the revisions did not fix it, or the work takes more than twice its deadline, write in the order chat: we will redo the work or refund the payment in full.
Questions and answers
Will you post the project or pick the freelancer?
No. We write the posting; you publish it and choose from the bids.
Should I show my budget?
Usually yes: a range saves everyone time and keeps bids realistic. If you prefer not to, we write the post so scope alone sets expectations.
Can you write it for a long-term contract?
Yes. Tell us the hours per week and duration, and the post explains how the work will be organised.
