Full posting
Bike Mechanic (full-time, workshop)
Spokewell Cycles · Riverside district · $21–25 per hour, depending on experience
We are a neighbourhood bike shop that fixes about 60 bikes a week: commuter bikes, kids' bikes, e-bikes and the odd vintage racer. Our workshop is busy from March to October, and we are looking for a mechanic who enjoys solving problems and explaining them to customers in plain words.
What you will do
- Diagnose and repair bikes booked in for service: brakes, gears, wheels, bearings
- Build new bikes from the box and set them up for the rider
- Write a short, clear note on each repair ticket and tell the customer what was done
- Keep the workshop tidy and tools in order
- Help on the shop floor on busy Saturdays
What you need
- At least 1 year of hands-on bike repair, paid or volunteer
- Confidence with hydraulic disc brakes and indexing gears
- Ability to plan your day around a booking list and say early when a job will run late
Nice to have
- Experience with e-bike motors and batteries
- Wheel building
- A recognised mechanic qualification
If you meet the "need" list but not all the "nice to have", please apply anyway.
What we offer
- 38 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, finishing at 6 pm
- Paid training on e-bike systems in your first 3 months
- Staff price on parts and bikes, and a free yearly service for family members
- 25 days of paid leave, taken mostly in the quiet winter months
How to apply
Send a few lines about the bikes you have worked on and your availability to [email]. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone within 5 working days and invite shortlisted people to a paid 2-hour trial shift.

About this service
Volunteers do not come for a salary, so a role description has to show the difference they will make, the exact time it takes and what support they get, from training to travel costs. We write volunteer role descriptions for charities, food banks, festivals, animal shelters, sports clubs and community projects, with tasks, time commitment, requirements such as background checks, and what the volunteer gains. Higher packages add short sign-up posts for social media, newsletters and noticeboards.

Questions and answers
Can it be used for a volunteer platform listing?
Yes. The description fits most volunteer platforms, and the short post works where there is a character limit.
Should we mention background checks?
Yes, if the role involves children or vulnerable adults. Saying it up front builds trust; the rules themselves depend on your country.
Will you recruit volunteers for us?
No. We write the texts; you publish them and handle sign-ups.
