Proofreading: annual report of a community garden association
Before and after (excerpt)
Before:
This year the garden welcomed 23 new members, and our waiting list have grown to 41 familys. Thanks to a council grant of £2,400 we replaced the old shed, it's roof had been leaking since 2023. Volunteers put in over 1.200 hours, a new record! The composting area was moved behind plot 14, which means the paths along plots 12-16 is now clear for wheelchairs. Special thanks goes to Margret Hale who organised the Spring Plant sale.

Consistency check across the whole report
- Names: "Margaret Hale" (4 times), "Tom Okoye" (3), "Priya Shah" (2), all now spelled the same way everywhere
- Organisation name: "Elm Street Community Garden" used in full the first time, then "the garden"; 3 cases of "Elm St. Garden" changed
- Spelling: British throughout ("organised", "colour", "programme"); 7 American forms changed
- Numbers: thousands with a comma, ranges with an en dash; amounts checked against the finance table on page 5, all match
Not changed (for you to decide)
- Paragraph 6 says "nearly 50 volunteers"; the table on page 5 lists 46. Both can be correct, so we left the wording.
- "Potluck" appears both with and without a hyphen in quotes from members; quotes were kept as written.
Total: 2,684 words checked, 57 corrections.
Client: Elm Street Community Garden, a volunteer-run association with 80 members Text: the 2,700-word annual report for members and the local council Brief: fix errors only, keep the friendly voice; use British spelling; plot numbers and amounts must stay exactly as given

About this service
Subtitles are read in a second or two, so a typo or a line broken in the wrong place is hard for viewers to miss. We also flag lines that look too long to read at the given duration.

What we need from you
The subtitle text pasted into the brief (open the .srt or .vtt file in a text editor and copy it), the language and any line length rules you follow.
We will ask you:

Questions and answers
Can I upload the .srt file itself?
The form takes PDF, Word, Excel and pictures, not .srt. Open the file in any text editor, copy everything and paste it into the brief.
Will you re-time the subtitles?
No. Timecodes stay exactly as you sent them; we only flag cues that look too long to read.
Do you check the subtitles against the audio?
No, we work from the text only. For new subtitles from a video, choose our subtitles service.
