Bike Mechanic (full-time, workshop)

Spokewell Cycles · Riverside district · $21–25 per hour, depending on experience

We are a neighbourhood bike shop that fixes about 60 bikes a week: commuter bikes, kids' bikes, e-bikes and the odd vintage racer. Our workshop is busy from March to October, and we are looking for a mechanic who enjoys solving problems and explaining them to customers in plain words.

What you will do

• Diagnose and repair bikes booked in for service: brakes, gears, wheels, bearings
• Build new bikes from the box and set them up for the rider
• Write a short, clear note on each repair ticket and tell the customer what was done
• Keep the workshop tidy and tools in order
• Help on the shop floor on busy Saturdays

What you need

• At least 1 year of hands-on bike repair, paid or volunteer
• Confidence with hydraulic disc brakes and indexing gears
• Ability to plan your day around a booking list and say early when a job will run late

Nice to have

• Experience with e-bike motors and batteries
• Wheel building
• A recognised mechanic qualification

If you meet the "need" list but not all the "nice to have", please apply anyway.

What we offer

• 38 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, finishing at 6 pm
• Paid training on e-bike systems in your first 3 months
• Staff price on parts and bikes, and a free yearly service for family members
• 25 days of paid leave, taken mostly in the quiet winter months

How to apply

Send a few lines about the bikes you have worked on and your availability to [email]. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone within 5 working days and invite shortlisted people to a paid 2-hour trial shift.
