About this service
Lending money to a relative or friend goes better when both sides have written down the amount, the repayment schedule and what happens if a payment is missed. We fill in a personal loan agreement with the lender and borrower, amount, interest or no interest, repayment dates or instalments, early repayment, what happens on late payment, and signatures and witnesses. The wording stays friendly and simple, while the key terms are clear enough to avoid misunderstandings later.

What we need from you
Names of the lender and borrower and your country, the amount and currency, whether there is interest, how and when it will be repaid, and anything special such as using the money for a car or a home deposit.
We will ask you:
- How much is being lent and in which currency?
- Will there be interest?
- How will it be repaid?

Questions and answers
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a template for information. Some countries require notarisation or have tax rules for family loans, so have a lawyer or tax adviser check it.
Does an interest-free loan have tax effects?
In some countries large interest-free loans count as a gift or taxable benefit. We flag this in the checklist; ask a tax adviser for your case.
Can it be a gift with conditions instead?
That is a different document. This template is for money that must be returned.
