Example for the Standard package

Telegram bot for booking haircuts at a barbershop

The bot in Telegram

Booking a haircut in the bot

A part of the code

async def booking_done(update: Update, context: ContextTypes.DEFAULT_TYPE) -> int:
    """The last step of the form: thanks the client and passes the request on."""
    request = context.user_data["booking"]
    request["phone"] = update.message.text.strip()
    await update.message.reply_text(TEXTS["booking_thanks"], reply_markup=main_menu())
    await context.bot.send_message(settings.admin_chat_id, format_request(request))
    sheet.append_row([datetime.now().isoformat(timespec="minutes"), *request.values()])
    return ConversationHandler.END

All the answers and buttons are in texts.yaml, so the client changes a price or the hours without touching the code.

Files: a ZIP archive with bot.py, texts.yaml, settings.example.env (where the bot token and the sheet go, filled in by the client), requirements.txt and a README: creating the bot in Telegram, connecting the Google Sheet and running it on a small server or hosting. The bot sends the request but does not check the barbers' calendar: the owner confirms the time.

Client: a barbershop with 3 barbers that took bookings only by phone. Task: a Telegram bot with a menu: prices, address and hours, a booking form (service, day and time, name, phone) that sends each request to the owner's chat and adds it to a Google Sheet.

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

A quiz gives channel readers a reason to come back and talk. This Telegram bot plays your quiz in a private chat: it asks your questions one by one with answer buttons, says right or wrong with your explanation, and shows the score at the end with a link back to your channel. From Standard each player's result goes to your chat and a Google Sheet, and forms can take a question idea or a prize claim. In Premium, admin commands start a new round, and a broadcast tells players who started the bot about it. The questions, the right answers and any prize are yours: the bot checks answers only against your key, and the rules of a prize and its legal side are on you. We write the Python code and a README on creating the bot in @BotFather and running it on your computer, server or a hosting. It takes no payments; hosting and the token stay with you.

  3. 3

What we need from you

Every question with its answer options and the right one, a short explanation for each if you want; the text players see at the end and the link to your channel; for Standard and Premium, where results should go and the questions of any form; your prize text and rules, if there is a prize. Never send the bot's token or any passwords: the README shows where you put them yourself.

We will ask you:

  • Your questions
  • Explanations
  • End text and link
  • Prize, if any

Questions and answers

Does the bot post the quiz in the channel itself?

The quiz runs in a private chat with the bot. You post a link to the bot in your channel; in Premium an admin command can post an announcement there too, if the bot is an admin of the channel.

Is there a table of top players?

In Premium the scores are kept in a small database on your server, and an admin command shows the top players. Basic keeps no scores; Standard sends them to your sheet.

Can players replay to raise their score?

In Premium the bot remembers who has played and can count only the first try. In Basic and Standard anyone can play again.

Can I give prizes?

Yes, but the prizes, the rules and their legal side are yours. The bot can show your prize text and, from Standard, take a prize claim form. It does not send prizes or take payments.

Where does it run?

On your computer, server or a hosting with Python; the token stays with you. It is a Telegram bot; WhatsApp is not part of this service.
