Telegram bot for booking haircuts at a barbershop

Booking a haircut in the bot

A part of the code

async def booking_done(update: Update, context: ContextTypes.DEFAULT_TYPE) -> int:
    """The last step of the form: thanks the client and passes the request on."""
    request = context.user_data["booking"]
    request["phone"] = update.message.text.strip()
    await update.message.reply_text(TEXTS["booking_thanks"], reply_markup=main_menu())
    await context.bot.send_message(settings.admin_chat_id, format_request(request))
    sheet.append_row([datetime.now().isoformat(timespec="minutes"), *request.values()])
    return ConversationHandler.END

All the answers and buttons are in texts.yaml, so the client changes a price or the hours without touching the code.

Files: a ZIP archive with bot.py, texts.yaml, settings.example.env (where the bot token and the sheet go, filled in by the client), requirements.txt and a README: creating the bot in Telegram, connecting the Google Sheet and running it on a small server or hosting. The bot sends the request but does not check the barbers' calendar: the owner confirms the time.

Client: a barbershop with 3 barbers that took bookings only by phone. Task: a Telegram bot with a menu: prices, address and hours, a booking form (service, day and time, name, phone) that sends each request to the owner's chat and adds it to a Google Sheet.

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

A job post that leads to a Telegram bot makes applying quick: a candidate taps a vacancy, reads your description and answers a few questions right in the chat. This bot shows your open roles with duties, conditions and pay exactly as you write them. From Standard each vacancy can have its own short form: a name, a contact, experience, a start date and a CV as a file or a link. The answers go to your chat and a Google Sheet, and the file to your chat. The bot does not rank or reject candidates, check documents or make any hiring decision; you read every application. Applications hold personal data, so telling candidates how you use and keep it, and following the data and hiring rules where you hire, are on you. We write the Python code and a README on running it on your computer, server or a hosting. It takes no payments; hosting and the token are yours.

  1. 1
    VacanciesYou give the vacancies and the questions for candidates
  2. 2

  3. 3
    LaunchYou create the bot, put in its token, run it and add its link to your job posts
  4. 4

What we need from you

Each vacancy as text: title, duties, conditions, pay and place of work, exactly as candidates should read them; the questions for each vacancy and whether a CV is needed; the chat or hiring group where applications should go; the text a candidate reads after applying. Never send the bot's token or any passwords: the README shows where you put them yourself.

We will ask you:

  • Your vacancies
  • Questions for candidates
  • Where applications go
  • Text after applying

Questions and answers

Does the bot pick the best candidates?

No. It collects applications and sends them to you as they are. It does not score, filter or reject anyone.

Where do CV files go?

To your chat, as Telegram documents. The Google Sheet gets the answers and a note that a file was sent. The bot keeps no files itself.

What about candidates' personal data?

Applications go only to your chat and your sheet. Telling candidates how their data is used and kept, and following the rules where you hire, are on your side.

Can I send new vacancies to everyone?

In Premium a broadcast goes to people who started the bot. Telegram does not let it write to anyone else.

Where does it run?

On your computer, server or a hosting with Python; the token stays with you. It is a Telegram bot only, not a WhatsApp one.
