About this service
Many of the best photos are landscape, but phone wallpapers, portrait frames, posters and most feeds want a vertical picture in 4:5, 2:3 or 9:16. We turn your horizontal photo into a vertical one by extending the sky above and the ground below, so the whole scene stays instead of a narrow crop of the middle. The bigger the change, the more of the picture is new: 3:2 to 4:5 adds a little, while 16:9 to 9:16 means most of the frame is recreated around your original photo.
What is included
- What you getYour horizontal photos turned vertical as PNG files of about 1.5 megapixels, one per format in your package, in the proportion you choose. Each picture is made from one of your photos, with the original scene kept whole in the middle.
- Any vertical shape4:5, 2:3, 3:4 or 9:16
- Whole scene keptYour full photo stays in the middle of the frame
- Sky and groundClouds, sea, sand, grass or floor continued naturally
- Phone wallpaper readySpace at the top for the clock and widgets
- Honest about the changeWe tell you when most of the frame is new
How it works
- 1UploadYou upload horizontal photos and choose the vertical shape
- 2Vertical extensionWe extend the sky and ground to fill the tall frame
- 3PNG and revisionsYou download the pictures and ask for changes within your package
What we need from you
Up to 5 horizontal photos (PNG, JPEG or WebP) you have the right to use, with the permission of the people in them. Tell us the vertical proportion and use (wallpaper, frame, feed post), and what should fill the new space above and below. We don't refit passport or ID photos, never change documents or receipts, and don't work with nudity or face swaps.
We will ask you:
- Which vertical shape do you need?
- Where will the vertical photo be used?
- What should fill the new space?

Questions and answers
Why not just crop the middle?
Cropping a landscape to vertical keeps only a third of it and often cuts people at the edges. Extending keeps everyone and the whole view, with new sky and ground around it.
Does a 16:9 photo work as 9:16?
Yes, but then your photo becomes a band across the middle and most of the picture is recreated. Sky, sea and plain floors extend well; busy streets and crowds are harder to continue believably.
Is it good for a poster?
About 1.5 megapixels is right for phones, feeds and small frames up to about 10 x 15 cm. A large poster would look soft.
Will the people in the photo change?
They stay in place and recognizable, but because the picture is redrawn, small features and any text can shift slightly. The new areas around them are recreated, not real.
