Host lines (opening)

Tom (in captain's hat): "Ahoy, crew! I'm Captain Redbeard, and this morning a seagull dropped this on our deck." (holds up a torn map) "Half a map! Legend says the other half is hidden right here, guarded by riddles only real pirates can solve. Are you real pirates?" (kids shout "Aye!") "I can't hear you over the waves!" (louder "AYE!") "Then earn your gold. Three trials, one treasure. Crews, to your ships!"

Games and contests

Cannonball relay (20 min)

Each crew carries water balloons on a big spoon to their "ship" (a hula hoop) 10 metres away. A dropped "cannonball" goes back to the start. The crew with the most balloons in 3 minutes wins a map piece. Rain option: use ping-pong balls indoors.

Knots & riddles (20 min)

Two tasks per crew: tie a simple knot from a picture card, and solve 3 riddles. Example: "I have a bed but never sleep, a mouth but never eat. What am I?" (A river.)

Treasure hunt (35 min)

Five clues in rhyme lead around the yard. Clue 1: "Where green things grow and the hose sleeps tight, look under the pot that's painted white." The last clue leads to a chest with gold coin bags for everyone — no crew loses.

About this service

A Christmas nativity or church play brings together toddlers in tea-towel costumes, teenagers who would rather not be there and a few adults who carry the story. We write a script that tells the Christmas story or the Bible passage you choose faithfully and warmly, gives roles to every age group, and leaves room for carols, readings and a short message from the pastor or leader. It fits your church hall, rehearsal time and tradition.

What we need from you

The church or community and its tradition, the story or passage, the ages and number of performers, the length, which carols or songs you plan, the space and the Bible translation you use.

We will ask you:

  • Which story or passage should the play tell?
  • What is your church tradition?
  • How many performers, and of what ages?
  • Which carols or songs do you plan to sing?

Questions and answers

Can the youngest children take part without lines?

Yes. We write roles such as angels, sheep and stars that come on stage with a simple action, so even three-year-olds join in.

Can it work for a modern retelling?

Yes, if your church likes that style. We keep the meaning of the passage and set it in a modern setting, and you approve the tone.

Which Bible translation do you quote?

The one you name in the brief. If none is named, we paraphrase and mark the verses so readers can use your church Bible.
