Host lines (opening)

Tom (in captain's hat): "Ahoy, crew! I'm Captain Redbeard, and this morning a seagull dropped this on our deck." (holds up a torn map) "Half a map! Legend says the other half is hidden right here, guarded by riddles only real pirates can solve. Are you real pirates?" (kids shout "Aye!") "I can't hear you over the waves!" (louder "AYE!") "Then earn your gold. Three trials, one treasure. Crews, to your ships!"

Games and contests

Cannonball relay (20 min)

Each crew carries water balloons on a big spoon to their "ship" (a hula hoop) 10 metres away. A dropped "cannonball" goes back to the start. The crew with the most balloons in 3 minutes wins a map piece. Rain option: use ping-pong balls indoors.

Knots & riddles (20 min)

Two tasks per crew: tie a simple knot from a picture card, and solve 3 riddles. Example: "I have a bed but never sleep, a mouth but never eat. What am I?" (A river.)

Treasure hunt (35 min)

Five clues in rhyme lead around the yard. Clue 1: "Where green things grow and the hose sleeps tight, look under the pot that's painted white." The last clue leads to a chest with gold coin bags for everyone — no crew loses.

About this service

Ready-made school plays rarely fit a real class: there are eight good parts for thirty children, or the jokes go over the heads of eight-year-olds. We write an original play for your class size and age, with a speaking part for every child who wants one, smaller group roles for shy students, and lines short enough to learn. The script fits your topic, the hall and the rehearsal time you have, with simple staging and costume notes.

What we need from you

The grade and age, the number of students and how many want speaking parts, the topic or occasion, the running time, the stage or hall and how many rehearsals you can hold.

We will ask you:

  • Which grade, and how many students?
  • What is the play about?
  • How long should it run?
  • Are there students who should get bigger or smaller parts?

Questions and answers

Can you include songs?

Yes. We mark where songs go and suggest well-known tunes or write new lyrics to a melody you choose.

Can you adapt a book the class is reading?

Yes for fairy tales and public domain works. For modern books we write an original play inspired by the theme, since staging the book itself may need permission.

What if the cast changes before the show?

Group roles and narrators are written so lines can move between students easily. You can also use a revision to rebalance parts.
