Files: a ZIP archive with 5 HTML pages, the styles and 7 pictures drawn for the articles, ready to upload to the client's hosting. New articles are added by copying an article page. The pictures here are screenshots of the site.

Client: Anna Berg, who writes simple home recipes and wanted her own blog instead of posts scattered across social networks. Task: a calm blog in warm white and olive with serif headings: a home page, 3 articles from her notes (pantry staples, Sunday lunch prep, one-pan lemon chicken) and an About page with her email and Instagram.

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

A city guide blog you put on your own hosting, for the places you know and love in your city. Each guide article has your intro, a card for every place with the address, hours and prices you give, your notes on what to try or see, a link to the place on a map service, pictures drawn for the blog, related guides and links to your social profiles. Send us your guides, or the places with your notes, and we write them (about 600 words each), draw the pictures and build the site in plain HTML and CSS. Every address, opening time and price comes from you, with the date you checked it if you like: we do not look them up or add places you have not chosen. It is a static site, with no admin panel, interactive map, booking, comments or forms. Hosting and the domain are on your side.

What we need from you

The name of the blog and the city it covers. The date you checked the details, if you want it shown. The author's name and a few lines for the About page, your contacts and social links. Your colours and style. Optionally up to 5 pictures as PNG, JPEG or WebP: your logo or your own photos of the city.

We will ask you:

  • The name and city of the blog
  • Places and guides
  • About you and your contacts
  • Colours and style

Questions and answers

Will you find places or check opening hours?

No. Every place, address, time and price is yours. We do not look them up or add places, and each guide can show the date you checked them.

Can the guide show a map?

Each place can link to its page on the map service you use, and one of the pictures can be a drawn route of a walk. An interactive map is not included.

Can places pay to be featured, or readers book a table?

There is no booking or payment on the site. If you feature places for payment, mark it in your words; the rules for that are on your side.

How do I keep the details up to date?

Edit the place card in any code editor, as the guide shows, and change the date. If you update often, your developer can move the design to a blogging platform.

Do you put the blog online?

No. You get the archive and upload it to your hosting; the guide explains how. Hosting and the domain are paid and set up on your side.
