Technical specification: booking website for a yoga studio

1. Project goals

  1. Let clients see the timetable and book a class in under one minute, from a phone.
  2. Sell class passes and memberships online.
  3. Cut the time staff spend on bookings from about 10 hours a week to under 2.

Success measures (3 months after launch): 70% of bookings made online; no-shows below 10%.

RoleWhat they need
VisitorSee classes, prices and teachers; buy a first-class trial
ClientBook and cancel classes, see remaining passes, join a waitlist
TeacherSee their own classes and the list of booked clients
AdminManage timetable, prices, passes, teachers and refunds

3. Pages and screens

  1. Home: next classes today, trial offer, studio address.
  2. Timetable: week view, filters by class type, level, teacher and room.
  3. Class page: description, teacher, length, places left, Book button.
  4. Prices: single class, 5- and 10-class passes, monthly membership.

  6. Account: upcoming bookings, history, passes, payment methods.
  7. Admin panel: timetable editor, client list, sales report.

4. Key features

4.1 Booking

  • A client can book if they have a valid pass or pay for a single class.
  • Class capacity is set per room (Room A: 18, Room B: 10).
  • When a class is full, the client can join a waitlist; if a place opens, the first person in line gets it and receives an email and text message.

4.2 Cancellation

  • Free cancellation up to 12 hours before class; the pass credit returns.
  • Later cancellation or a no-show uses up the credit.

4.3 Payments

  • Card payments through a payment provider chosen by the studio.
  • Passes expire: 5-class after 2 months, 10-class after 3 months.

4.4 Notifications

  • Booking confirmation, reminder 3 hours before class, waitlist updates.

5. Non-functional requirements

About this service

We write a design brief that a web or app designer can start from: the product, the audience, the mood, the pages or screens, brand assets you already have and references with what to borrow from each. It also lists what the designer must deliver and in what format, which avoids the most common disputes. A clear brief gets you closer designs on the first round.

What is included

  • What you getA design brief with goals, audience, mood words, page or screen list, references explained and deliverables for the designer. It comes as formatted text you can paste into a document or send to developers; any time or cost figures are rough guidance, not a quote.
  • Mood and style wordsClear words instead of 'make it modern'
  • References explainedWhat to take and what to avoid from each
  • Pages or screensThe list with key content on each
  • DeliverablesFiles, states, breakpoints, design system

What we need from you

What the site or app is, who it is for, your brand colours or logo if any, sites or apps you like and dislike, and the deadline.

We will ask you:

  • Website or app, and what is it for?
  • Which sites or apps do you like and why?
  • What do you dislike in design?
  • Do you have a logo or brand colours?

Questions and answers

Do you make the design?

No. This is the brief you hand to a designer or post on a marketplace.

Paste links instead, and describe what you like about each.

Will it work for a Figma designer?

Yes. The deliverables section names what to hand over in Figma, such as components and states.
