Summary by channel

Booking platforms14254%$10915%$93
Direct (phone, email, website)8738%$1260%$126
Local travel agent228%$10210%$92

Direct guests pay more, stay longer (3.4 nights vs 2.3) and bring $33 more per night after commission than platform guests.

Trends and outliers

  • July and August made 41% of revenue; occupancy reached 93%.
  • March and April were weakest (occupancy 38%), but weekend nights still sold at 79%: the gap is midweek.
  • Cancellations were 19% for platform bookings with free cancellation and 4% for direct bookings with a deposit.
  • Outlier: 6 bookings in May at $45 per night. These are all one corporate group with a manual discount; they were kept in totals but flagged.

Findings

  1. Your most profitable guests are direct, returning guests, yet only 14% of platform guests were invited to book direct next time.
  2. Midweek in spring is the only real gap; weekends sell themselves.
  3. Free cancellation on platforms costs about 27 lost nights over 9 months.

Recommendations

  1. Add a "book direct" card at check-out with a 10% returning-guest rate: still $20 above platform net.
  2. Create a midweek spring offer (3 nights for the price of 2, Sun–Thu) for March–April.
  3. Switch platform listings to a non-refundable rate at 8% off alongside the flexible one.
  4. Track the booking channel for every guest from now on: 17 rows had no channel and were grouped as "direct".

All totals were cross-checked against the monthly sums in your sheet; the difference is $0.

Client: a 12-room guesthouse by a lake, run by two owners Data: 284 booking rows, January to September (date, room type, nights, channel, price paid, cancellation) Question asked: "Which channel and which months actually make us money, and where are we losing it?"

The client and all details are made up.

About this service

Mailchimp and Klaviyo dashboards show open rates for each send, but rarely answer which subject lines, days and segments actually bring clicks and orders. We take your campaign export, compare sends side by side, separate inflated opens caused by Apple Mail privacy from real clicks and connect revenue to campaigns where your export includes it. You get a clear view of what to send more of and what to stop.

What is included

  • What you getA report comparing campaigns by clicks, orders, revenue and unsubscribes, with patterns by subject line, send day and segment, and a list of tests for the next month. You get it on the order page and as a Word document, with the tables also as an Excel file (values only, no formulas or charts).

  • Honest open ratesApple Mail inflation taken into account
  • Subject line patternsLength, offers and wording that worked

What we need from you

The campaign report exported from Mailchimp, Klaviyo or another email platform as Excel or CSV, the period, and which sends were promotions, newsletters or flows.

We will ask you:

  • Which platform is the export from?
  • Does the export include orders or revenue per campaign?
  • What is the main goal of your emails?
  • Which segments do you send to?

  • Checked before deliveryEvery result goes through a quality check before it reaches you, and you see it on the order page before accepting it.
  • Free revisionsAsk for changes within your brief as many times as the package allows.
  • Acceptance after 3 daysIf within 3 days of delivery you neither accept the work nor ask for changes, it is accepted automatically. If you write in the order chat after delivery, the order waits; once we answer, we may start the 3 days again and will say so in the chat.

Questions and answers

Why do you treat open rates with caution?

Apple Mail privacy protection loads images for many subscribers, so opens look higher than reality. Clicks and orders are the more reliable signal.

Do you need access to my email account?

No. An export file or pasted table is enough; we never log in to your platform.

Can you write the next campaigns too?

Not in this order. Email sequences are a separate service in our catalog, and this report gives them a solid starting point.
