About this service

Birth, marriage and death certificates, parish register entries and old census pages hold the facts a family tree needs, but in faded handwriting, abbreviations and sometimes another language or alphabet. Photograph the records and we type each one word for word, keeping the original spelling of names and places. From Standard we also pull the key facts (names, dates, places, relations) into a table you can enter into Ancestry, MyHeritage or your genealogy program.

What is included

  • What you getA word-for-word transcription of each record, on the order page and as a Word (.docx) file; from Standard also a facts table (person, event, date, place, relation) as an Excel (.xlsx) file.
  • Word for wordOriginal spelling of names and places
  • AbbreviationsKept, with expansions in brackets
  • Old scriptsHandwritten registers and forms
  • Uncertain readingsMarked [?] with likely options
  • Facts tableFrom Standard: ready for your tree

What we need from you

Sharp photos of each record, the language and script if you know them and the family names you are researching.

We will ask you:

  • What kind of records are they?
  • What language and script are they in?
  • Which family names are you researching?
  • Should abbreviations be expanded?
