Bike Mechanic (full-time, workshop)
Spokewell Cycles · Riverside district · $21–25 per hour, depending on experience
We are a neighbourhood bike shop that fixes about 60 bikes a week: commuter bikes, kids' bikes, e-bikes and the odd vintage racer. Our workshop is busy from March to October, and we are looking for a mechanic who enjoys solving problems and explaining them to customers in plain words.
What you will do
- Diagnose and repair bikes booked in for service: brakes, gears, wheels, bearings
- Build new bikes from the box and set them up for the rider
- Write a short, clear note on each repair ticket and tell the customer what was done
- Keep the workshop tidy and tools in order
- Help on the shop floor on busy Saturdays
What you need
- At least 1 year of hands-on bike repair, paid or volunteer
- Confidence with hydraulic disc brakes and indexing gears
- Ability to plan your day around a booking list and say early when a job will run late
Nice to have
- Experience with e-bike motors and batteries
- Wheel building
- A recognised mechanic qualification
If you meet the "need" list but not all the "nice to have", please apply anyway.
What we offer
- 38 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, finishing at 6 pm
- Paid training on e-bike systems in your first 3 months
- Staff price on parts and bikes, and a free yearly service for family members
- 25 days of paid leave, taken mostly in the quiet winter months
How to apply
Send a few lines about the bikes you have worked on and your availability to [email]. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone within 5 working days and invite shortlisted people to a paid 2-hour trial shift.

About this service
People who leave often know exactly what is wrong, but a vague "why are you leaving?" gets a polite non-answer. We write exit interview questions grouped by topic, such as role and workload, manager, pay and growth, team and culture, and what would have made them stay, with neutral wording that invites honest answers. You also get a summary template that turns each interview into comparable notes, so patterns show up across departures.
What is included
- What you getA set of exit interview questions grouped by topic with an opening script, a one-page summary template and, in Premium, a quarterly trends report template. You get it as text you can paste or download as a file.

What we need from you
Your company size and type, who will run the interviews, whether there is also an online survey, topics you especially want to learn about and how results will be shared.
We will ask you:

- Will it be a conversation, a form or both?
- What do you most want to learn?

Questions and answers
Should the direct manager run the interview?
Usually not, since people are less open with the manager they are leaving. We write the script for HR or another neutral interviewer.
Can we turn the questions into an online form?
Yes. Most questions work as form fields, and we mark which ones are better asked in person.
How should we store the answers?
Follow your company's data protection rules. The summary template keeps notes factual and leaves out details not needed for the analysis.
