Bike Mechanic (full-time, workshop)
Spokewell Cycles · Riverside district · $21–25 per hour, depending on experience
We are a neighbourhood bike shop that fixes about 60 bikes a week: commuter bikes, kids' bikes, e-bikes and the odd vintage racer. Our workshop is busy from March to October, and we are looking for a mechanic who enjoys solving problems and explaining them to customers in plain words.
What you will do
- Diagnose and repair bikes booked in for service: brakes, gears, wheels, bearings
- Build new bikes from the box and set them up for the rider
- Write a short, clear note on each repair ticket and tell the customer what was done
- Keep the workshop tidy and tools in order
- Help on the shop floor on busy Saturdays
What you need
- At least 1 year of hands-on bike repair, paid or volunteer
- Confidence with hydraulic disc brakes and indexing gears
- Ability to plan your day around a booking list and say early when a job will run late
Nice to have
- Experience with e-bike motors and batteries
- Wheel building
- A recognised mechanic qualification
If you meet the "need" list but not all the "nice to have", please apply anyway.
What we offer
- 38 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, finishing at 6 pm
- Paid training on e-bike systems in your first 3 months
- Staff price on parts and bikes, and a free yearly service for family members
- 25 days of paid leave, taken mostly in the quiet winter months
How to apply
Send a few lines about the bikes you have worked on and your availability to [email]. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone within 5 working days and invite shortlisted people to a paid 2-hour trial shift.

About this service
Candidates judge a company by how it writes to them: silence after an interview or a cold one-line rejection is what they tell friends about. We write a set of email templates for every stage of your hiring process, from application received and interview invitation to status updates, offers and kind, specific rejections, with placeholders for names, dates and links. Each template is short enough to send from an applicant tracking system or a plain inbox and matches your company's tone.
What is included
- What you getA set of candidate email templates by hiring stage, each with a subject line and placeholders, and in higher packages variants for different roles or seniority levels. You get it as text you can paste or download as a file.

What we need from you
Your hiring stages, the tone you want, what you can and cannot say in rejections, typical response times, and the tools you send emails from.
We will ask you:
- What are the stages of your hiring process?
- What tone should the emails have?
- Do you give feedback when you reject?
- Which tool do you send emails from?

Questions and answers
Should rejection emails give reasons?
It depends on your policy and local rules. We write rejections that are kind and specific about the stage without statements that could cause trouble; check them with HR.
Can we use them for internal candidates?
Yes. Ask for internal versions in the brief, since a colleague needs a more personal tone.
Will you set them up in our applicant tracking system?
No, we do not access your tools. The placeholders are easy to swap for your system's merge fields.
