Files in an order
Which files you can send with the brief, how they are checked, the formats results come in, and how long files are kept.
Some services work from your files: a document to translate or summarize, a table to analyze, a recording to subtitle, a picture to edit. Others hand the result over as a file, such as a Word document or a presentation. The service page says what the service takes and what it gives.
Sending files with the brief
If a service takes files, the brief has a Files field. It says which kinds of files the service accepts, how many and how large:
- documents and tables: PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and CSV;
- pictures: PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF;
- audio and video recordings.
An order takes up to 5 files in all, counting the brief and any change requests. Some services need at least one file; others take a link to the file instead. Files are uploaded on the website: the app sends the brief with the files already uploaded there.
How files are checked
Each file is checked after it is uploaded, usually within seconds, and you can send the brief once every file is ready. What a file is, is told from its contents, not from its name. A document is turned away if it has no text to read (for example a scan or a photo of a page) or if it is protected with a password. Remove the password, or send a file with text, or write what it says in the brief.
Results as files
Many writing services deliver the result as a file as well as text on the order page: Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF or EPUB. The service page lists the formats. Download the files on the order page. When you ask for changes, the new version comes with new files, and the earlier versions stay available.
Pictures, voice-overs, music and videos are delivered as files too: view or play them on the order page and download them there.
How long files are kept
- Your brief files: 30 days after the order is closed.
- Result files: 180 days after they are delivered.
After that the files are deleted, and the order page says they are no longer available. The texts of the brief and the result stay on the order page, so download the files you want to keep.

Questions and answers
My PDF was not accepted. Why?
It is probably a scan with no text in it, or it is protected with a password. Send a file with text, remove the password, or write the contents in the brief.
Can I send more than 5 files?
No, an order takes up to 5 files. Put several documents into one, or give a link to a folder if the service takes links.
In which format will I get the result?
The service page lists the formats. Writing services usually give the text on the order page, and many also give Word, PDF or other files.
Can I download my files later?
Brief files are kept for 30 days after the order is closed, and result files for 180 days after delivery. Download the ones you want to keep.
