About this service

Translating a comic is not like translating a document: every balloon has a speaker, sound effects carry meaning, jokes depend on the picture, and the text has to fit back into the same small bubble. Upload images of your comic or manga pages, and we read every balloon, caption and sound effect and translate it into a numbered script by page, panel and balloon, with the speaker named and a shorter fitting option where the line is long. You or your letterer then place the text into the art; we do not edit the images.

What is included

  • What you getA translation script numbered by page, panel and balloon, with speaker names, sound effects and translator notes on puns, on the order page and as a Word (.docx) file.
  • Balloon numberingPage, panel and balloon in reading order
  • Speakers namedWho says each line, including off-panel
  • Sound effectsTranslated with a note on the original
  • Fit-friendly linesA shorter option for tight bubbles
  • Puns and culture notesJokes and references explained for the letterer

What we need from you

Clear images of each page, the source and target languages, the reading direction, character names and any established translations of them, and the tone of the series.

We will ask you:

  • Which languages: from and into?
  • Which way do the pages read?
  • Do characters or places already have official names?
  • What tone should the translation have?

Questions and answers

Can I order a translation of a published manga I bought?

Only for your private reading. Publishing or sharing a translation of someone else’s comic needs the rights holder’s permission.

Will you put the text into the bubbles?

No, we deliver a script; lettering into the images is done by you or a letterer. The numbering makes placing each line quick.

How many pages can I upload?

Up to 5 images per order of up to 20 MB each. For more pages, put two or four pages into one image while keeping the text sharp.
